Boise has a bar beneath the Idanha Hotel—and it comes with a story

An old downtown hotel basement, a quieter conversational bar and one of Boise's more interesting pieces of nightlife history.

Most downtown bars invite you in from the sidewalk. 10th Street Station asks you to look for the basement. Its address is 104 North 10th Street, underneath the historic Idanha Hotel, and that simple change in elevation is part of what makes the place feel different from the busier spots along Main Street.

The Downtown Boise Association describes 10th Street Station as a low-key conversational bar with a long connection to the Idanha building. Its listing calls it Boise's oldest bar and mentions a speakeasy past. Histories of Boise's oldest drinking establishments use different definitions—original business name, building, or continuously operating bar—so the useful, defensible detail is its decades-long association with a historic hotel basement, not a definitive oldest-in-town trophy.

The atmosphere is the draw in sources describing the place. Downtown Boise calls it conversational and compares its mood to a neighborhood regulars' bar; Visit Idaho's travel writing characterizes it as a subterranean saloon. That's a specific kind of recommendation: the bar to keep in mind when you want to sit, talk and make the night less of an event.

The Downtown Boise Association currently lists hours of 2 p.m.–2 a.m. daily and phone 208-344-2677. Those are a dated directory snapshot, not a promise about today's door. Confirm with the business, especially around holidays or special events.

If you're new to Boise or hosting someone who has already seen the obvious nightlife blocks, this is a different lens on downtown. Start by finding the old Idanha building, then take a look downstairs. It's a way to connect the city's hotel history to a real neighborhood gathering place without inventing a personal bar review.

Our Dive Bar Finder includes 10th Street Station under basement bar, history and quiet-conversation features. Search those quirks, compare nearby neighborhood spots and check each bar's documented sources before you head out.
